Description

Hand lathed, maple wood hollow form vessel crafted by wood artisan Bruce Perlmutter. The maple is from fallen trees local to Perlmutter and has light shimmery golden tones with a pretty grain. The lid is embellished by a process called “chatter work”, hand work done by holding a chatter tool at an angle to the lid, allowed the tool to vibrate against the wood. Each deflection and springback action leaves a cut resulting in the delicate, angular pattern.

Bruce Perlmutter

Bruce Perlmutter learned the art of woodworking while growing up from his craftsman father. Tinkering in his youth became a more earnest career in the early 1990's when he purchased a lathe and a few basic tools and began to experiment with thick-walled and boxy bowls. Now an experienced member of the American Association of Woodturners, Perlmutter mentors and teaches less experienced turners in his own carefully honed techniques. Guided by the colors, grain patterns, and natural features of wood, Perlmutter painstakingly hand crafts brilliantly unique bowls, platters, and hollow form vessels using only local fallen trees. Each piece is a functional work of art, sealed with a food-safe finish, and buffed to a soft luster.
