Legend has it that coral is pink because when Perseus, mounted on Pegasus with the newly slain Medusa's head in a sack, flew over Andromeda chained to a cliff by a sea monster, he alighted to save the unfortunate nymph and laid Medusa's head on some seaweed at the water's edge.
