Sonoran Treasure Healing Body Oil
We chose organic jojoba as one of the staples of the Slow Beauty line because of its long history and versatility. Native Americans in the American Southwest have been using jojoba for hundreds of years to treat skin conditions, sores, wounds, sun and windburn, and as a hair and scalp treatment. One of two oils that are the most structurally similar to the skin’s natural oil – the other being whale oil – the use of the more humane and renewable jojoba became more prevalent after the government banned the use of sperm whale oil in 1974. Jojoba is a fantastically effective oil that can be used for hair, face, and body and is naturally antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, non-toxic, and non-comedogenic.
Native to the Southwestern desert, Ocotillos are large spindly shrubs composed of thorn covered canes which, much of the year, appear lifeless. With enough rainfall they sprout leaves and bright orange, edible flowers that are much loved by hummingbirds. All parts of the plant are medicinal and we added this natural wonder because it has toning properties that help to move lymphatic fluid and stimulate venous circulation and can help to reduce puffiness and swelling.
Chaparral is a wonderfully healing antioxidant for stressed skin because it is antiviral and anti-inflammatory and acts as natural first-aid for cuts and wounds, itchy skin, and conditions such as eczema, and psoriasis.
Avocado seeds contain vitamin rich oils that nourish and soften the skin.
Lavender is a KB favorite because it has been used to treat an array of skin conditions and maladies for thousands of years. Used by the Egyptians for mummification, prescribed by medieval physicians to treat epilepsy and migraines, and for centuries English farmers put lavender flowers in their hats to prevent headaches. For skin, lavender is anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial making it a fantastic tool to combat eczema, dermatitis, dry and chapped skin, and acne. Calming and grounding to the senses, the scent of lavender also has anti-depressive qualities and is used extensively in aromatherapy to mitigate anxiety, insomnia, and mental exhaustion.
