The brothers, now in their 90's, began collecting Native American artifacts and petrified wood along the Platte River near Ogallala in the 1950's. In 1976 they opened their first gallery of petrified wood art and in 2000 they donated their collections to the Western Nebraska Community Foundation, stipulating that everything stay in Ogallala. The Foundation in their name still stands today and raises money to showcase local artists and bring artists-in-residence from around the country.
