Description
Elemental and mineral, Redwater is a high-desert perfume built from plants gathered and growing wild in Northern Arizona. Pinyon pine and yerba santa, growing side by side in the Verde Valley, are distilled together, melding into an aroma that is softly sweet and balsamic with a faint smoke. Cliffrose and honeysuckle are slowly macerated and the infusions lend notes of sweet watermelon, honey, and spicy clove. The bergamot mint is foraged from a single creek near the Verde River where it has successfully naturalized. This fragrant herb is of the mint family but leans toward the cool floral notes of clary sage and a classic citrus note that reveals itself slowly on the skin.

The Bottle
Each brightly colored, organically shaped bottle was handmade at Effe Due Studio in Murano, Italy. We met artist and founder Chiara Fuga on a trip to Italy and collaborated with her workshop on a collection of vessels made using the centuries-old techniques of Murano glassmaking. Done in the bright, exuberant colors that the island is known for, the bottles recall early Venetian glass, when the developing tradition drew inspiration from ancient Roman forms and the glassmaking traditions of the Byzantine world.

Yerba Santa, or “holy herb,” is a sacred plant with nurturing feminine energy. Native to the dry landscapes of the Southwest and California, it has adapted to drought and fire, regenerating vigorously after wildfires. Its resilience has made it a symbol of renewal and protection.
This year, for our annual celebration of Cat Nights, we thought about the plants and places that we cross and re-cross, and attempted to trace through botanicals the most important landscapes that we prowled through over the past year. With family and a small outpost in Tucson, we’re great lovers of the incredible and strange scents of the Southwest. For Redwater, we worked with our partner Clare Licher in Sedona, an avid naturalist who hand-forages throughout the Northern Arizona landscape, gathering plants and resins in small quantities and with attention to natural regeneration and the protection of local seed banks.
