Our Refills

The Slow Beauty hand blown glass vanity bottles are much too beautiful and special to be tossed away when your product is finished. Our infinitely recyclable aluminum refill bottles make the line one of the most sustainable on the market. Currently the collection is about 75% refillable and we are committed to working toward greater heights of sustainability every year that we’re in business – the health of the planet is always our primary focus. Our goal for the upcoming months is to find solutions for more of our smaller bottles and pots that are currently challenging to refill at home.

Infinitely Recyclable Aluminum

Our refill bottles are minimally packaged and made from aluminum, an easily and infinitely recyclable material, with necks wide enough to make cleaning the bottle out for recycling possible.

How do I refill my glass bottle?

Many of our larger bottles can be poured straight from the aluminum into the original glass bottle with just a steady hand. Our smaller and more intricately designed bottles may require some simple tools to refill. If anything is needed it will be included in your package.

Why don't I see a refill option for my product?

Unfortunately some of our intricate and very small bottles require special equipment to fill or are impractical to fill at home and our lip pots and salves are poured warm as liquid and harden as they cool. We’re working on some bottle alterations and solutions for the near future so that more of our Slow Beauty can be included in the refill program. To inquire about custom refills, please reach out to info@kindredblack.com and we’ll do our best to get you what you want.

How do I clean my refill bottle for recycling?

First, remove the small white liner inside the cap and dispose of it, that piece keeps the bottle from leaking but is not recyclable. Make sure the bottle is fully empty of product then swish some warm soap and water inside the body and rinse.

My aluminum refill isn’t full, why is that?

We have 4 sizes of aluminum bottles and sometimes have to size up to give you enough product for your refill. In some situations your refill bottle will be filled enough to fill your original glass bottle, but not to the top of the aluminum bottle.

My refill didn’t fill my glass bottle to the top or I have extra oil leftover after I filled my glass bottle to the top. Why is that?

Your original bottle size might vary slightly from the size listed. Our artisans are amazing at achieving a fairly uniform size and shape for the glass bottles but because each bottle is handmade, there can be small differences that are unavoidable – a person is sitting at a flame and blowing an orb of molten glass into shape. We think of these small differences as a strength and what makes our line so unlike anything else on the market.

Are the refills travel-friendly?

Yes, our refill bottles can easily be packed and taken on the road.

Why did I receive a funnel and/or pipette?

To make refilling the bottles easier, many refill packages will include a metal funnel or a glass and rubber pipette. The funnels simply get put in the necks of your original glass bottle so that the refill can be poured through. The pipettes take a little more work but because our hand blown glass bottles are often small and intricately designed, this was the most efficient way to ensure that you can refill without spilling. Make sure the rubber tip is attached to the flat end of the pipette, gently insert the tapered tip of the glass pipette into the refill bottle, and squeeze the rubber tip to suck a small amount of the oil into the glass tube. Take the filled pipette and insert into the glass bottle and squeeze gently to release the liquid. Repeat until the glass bottle is full. Please be very careful with the glass pipettes as the tapered ends are quite delicate.
