Merrythought is an old English name for a wishbone, a symbol of luck for more than 2000 years. The tradition of breaking the bone is thought to have started with the ancient Etruscans, who believed that chickens were capable of divining the future, and some also believe that as the shape resembles the crescent moon, a wishbone can be magical.
