Description

A spiritual oil for the mindful rituals and practices that can help us to cultivate happiness, gratitude, and optimism when we feel dispirited or melancholy. Ishpingo, a fragrant, wild crafted spice, has anti-inflammatory properties, has been known to help boost the immune system, and has stimulating properties that aromatherapists use to improve the mood and mitigate anxiety and mental fatigue. Ishingo Om makes use of this wonderfully mellowing oil by pairing the ishpingo with ginger lily to promote peaceful thoughts, sandalwood to ground the mind, and two types of jasmine, richly aromatic flowers that are thought through their scent to help relieve depression and boost cognitive function.

The word spice is derived from the latin “species” which meant “wares” or “goods”. Ancient peoples prized spices more highly than gold and silver and early explorers traveled many thousands of miles along The Silk Road, an ancient trade route that linked the powerful Roman and Chinese Civilizations, to procure spices to be used in rituals, religious ceremonies, and in primitive medicine.

Europeans became fanatical for these botanical riches and in 1540 Gonzalo Pizarro set out in search of the “Land of Cinnamon” thought to be somewhere to the east. The Spanish expedition ended up in the Ecuadorian Amazon and what they actually happened upon was Ishpingo, a variety of Amazonian cinnamon that was already highly valued by the local population for its spiritual, medicinal, and culinary uses.

Over time the Spanish abandoned this wily spice because of the difficulty that they encountered getting it to thrive in almost any other environment and ishpingo is still mainly only grown in Ecuador and Columbia.
Ishpingo Om
Ishpingo remains an integral part of the culture and economy of its native habitats. The tree is sacred and is gently and sustainably pruned by the locals who harvest only small cuttings, flowers, and twigs for ishpingo oil distillation.
