Kindred Black x J. Hannah
We're thrilled to partner on this special edition scent with J.Hannah, a Los Angeles-based line of fine jewelry and edit of high quality nail polishes. Sharing a commitment to sustainability and community, while maintaining traditional standards of quality and craft, we felt the harmony between our two small businesses made this collaboration a natural fit.
Coming together to share creatively, we worked over the past year to formulate an exotically precious scent with an equally precious vanity bottle. A limited edition, Drink Deep, Psyche is packaged in a recycled sterling silver perfume bottle custom designed by J. Hannah and cast locally in New York City.
Our pure rose oil comes from a small family run cooperative in Kelaat M'Gouna, Morocco. It takes tens of thousands of rose blossoms to make one ounce of pure, concentrated rose essential oil. The scent of rose is an intoxicating aphrodisiac and helps to boost libido and arouse the senses. Rose is extensively used as aromatherapy to combat depression and anxiety, paving the way for enhanced sexual intimacy, and is said to help balance the nervous system, allowing the body to more fully enjoy the sensation of touch.
This tension-relieving scent has been used since ancient times for love potions, sensual elixirs, and sexual tonics. Cleopatra is said to have bathed in rose water and covered her bed in the soft, pungent petals. The allegedly tempting Egyptian queen didn't know it but rose contains phenylethylamine – the same chemical produced by the brain when you're falling in love.
The soft, woody sandalwood is from plantations in western Australia that work with indigenous harvesters and conservation groups to reduce impact. The scent of sandalwood is said to help relieve anxiety, has anti-depressive qualities, and though it relaxes the nervous system, is said to give off erotic signals to the opposite sex and cause a subtle quickening of the pulse.
Delicate, silky vanilla absolute has been prized for hundreds of years for its ability to increase arousal by soothing the central nervous system, easing emotional tension and reducing anxiety, and improving circulation.
The full, rich, and sweet scent of jasmine has been used for centuries to arouse the baser animal instincts and supercharge the libido. Known as “the perfume of love”, precious jasmine oil is thought to mimic animal musk and has been described as smelling like sweat. White flowers contain a compound called indole which when broken down has a heady, musky scent that is arousing because of this association with sweat soaked skin and animalistic passion. Known for centuries as one of the strongest natural aphrodisiacs, ancient perfumers cautioned that young virgins should never be allowed to pick in fields of white flowers.
Our jasmine enfleurage is extracted on a small farm in Colombia using organically grown jasmine flowers. The fat used for the ancient scent extraction process of enfleurage is local, Colombian palm oil, that is sustainably and organically grown. The oil is then extracted from the fat using organic ethanol.
Our Frankincense is responsibly wild foraged from the papery bark of the Boswellia Sacra trees and distilled by hand in the Sultanate of Oman. The oil is a slow artisanal hydro-distillation done in copper using hand hammered traditional European alembic pot stills. Frankincense essential oil has been used in rituals, cosmetics, and perfumes for thousands of years and is known to be an aphrodisiac because it helps to balance hormone levels and reduce mood killing anxiety and fatigue.
