Description

The Miwak Junior Sajama is a ceramic pipe handmade using a combination of stoneware and porcelain clays. A hollow interior provides a large chamber for smoke and the bowl of the pipe is hand-glazed for a non-porous, easy-to-clean surface. Miwak Junior pipes are reduction fired in a gas kiln at extremely high temperatures, rendering the pipes especially sturdy.

Miwak Junior

Miwak Junior first began as a rebellious act in a community college ceramics class. Chilean artist Sebastian Boher tried several times to sneak a pipe into the kiln but it wasn't until his third try that he was able to pass unnoticed by the class censors. The difference on this try – he had created an object of beauty with more discreet functionality. After more experimentation with partner Alice Johnson Boher, a writer and performer from the American South, Miwak Junior was born.

Alice and Sebastian's collections are inspired by Pre-Columbian cultures and the Space Age, and all of their exquisite pipes are handmade in their Echo Park home studio.
