Description
Our annual Cat Night’s celebrant, an earthy, sensual fossilized amber elixir with a quiet darkness of exotic spices and hints of bright citrus. Anneau de Feu is created with a handmade fossilized amber oil from resin that is thousands of years old. The dissolved resin is folded into a synthesis of mandarin, woods, and a fusion of lemongrasses and mellowed with a wild musk mallow enfleurage and a vanilla tonka bean accord.

The Bottle
Anneau de Feu means "ring of fire" and is the fifth bottle in our 2025 series of micro batch seasonal perfumes in hand blown glass perfume bottles inspired by 19th century stone and ceramic snuff bottles. Each sculptural bottle is artfully adorned with a freely moving, handcrafted ring at its center – a distinctive work of art, blown by a master glass artisan in Illinois, and shipped using the ancient method of cork and wax sealing.

The scent profile of Anneu de Feu speaks in the resinous heat of sun-cured sap, a whisper of musk, velvety and warm, and the silken sweetness of cream and butter. At its core is fossilized amber oil, coaxed from ancient stones, adding a subtle shadow to the brightness, a trace of earth and soot. Threaded through the warmth is a flicker of green grass, delicate petals, and the spectral presence of citrus, drifting at the far edges, barely there.
The sweet, musky heart of Anneu de Feu comes from local ambrette, a botanical musk distilled from the wild musk mallow plant. Each year, we have a small, precious amount of the oil slowly extracted with time and patience through the ancient art of enfleurage.
The Cat Nights
When the dog days of summer draw to a close—a stretch of sweltering heat and heavy air that grips the Northern Hemisphere through July and August—we welcome the turning of the season. The arrival of dusk on August 17th begins one of our favorite times of year: the cat nights. Rooted in a little-known Irish legend, the term “cat nights” refers to a witch’s secret: that she may transform herself into a cat and back again eight times, but on the ninth, she is bound to feline form forever— a legend that gives rise to the old saying, a cat has nine lives. The myth may have taken shape specifically in August because cats are particularly yowly and the shadows of evening grow longer, deeper, and more mysterious.
