Early 20th century Nasturtium Vase in honey colored glass by The Phoenix Glass Company. Phoenix Glass was founded in 1880 in Monaca, Pennsylvania and initially had a successful business making lamp chimneys for oil lamps. Today the company is primarily known for the sculptured art glass that they made during the 1930's through the late 1950's. The Catalonian ( meaning "Old Spanish Glass") line was introduced in 1927 and became extremely popular as the Art Moderne movement grew. This interesting, sea creature-esque piece is a fine example of their work.
