Beautifully preserved Franz Pohl tortoise patterned vase, circa 1880. The head of Josephinenhütte, a Silesian glassworks in the Sudeten mountains founded in 1842, Pohl was a glass innovator and was responsible for broadening what was though possible in glassmaker at the time. The "inventor" of the tortoise pattern in glass, the design brought him much acclaim and was widely copied for years afterward. Two pieces are available.
