1950's Glidden speckled pottery serving dish. Glidden pottery, founded in Alfred NY in 1940 was a major producer of mid century modern pottery until they went bankrupt in 1958. Some of their claims to fame are that Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez displayed Gliddenware on “I Love Lucy,” a move said to be one of television’s earliest product placements, and that a savvy entrepreneur bought a load of factory seconds from Glidden Pottery in 1950 to start the business known today as Pottery Barn.
