Our hinoki essential oil is sustainably sourced from a traditional maker of Japanese cypress tubs in Japan, who instead of discarding the leftover wood learned to steam distill essential oil from the wasted material. A light and earthy oil with lemony undertones distilled from the aromatic bark of the Japanese cypress, the scent of hinoki oil relieves the mind of tension and stress and has been used for years to improve hair and scalp health and even promote new hair growth.
We blended this smooth, calming oil with a bracing yuzu essential oil to draw out and enhance the subtle citrus of the wood. Yuzu, a fruit originally from China but now grown mainly in Japan, is often described as a hybrid of lemon, lime, and grapefruit and has a bright and clean citrus scent that is often used in aromatherapy to improve mood and mental clarity.
