Founded in New York City in 2014 by cousins Roi Ironi and David Shabtai. Handcrafted in France at one of the last remaining handmade eyewear factories in the region, the cousins work with highly skilled, traditional craftsman to create lightweight, durable frames that combine functionality with a fashion-forward and distinctive style. Shabtai and Ironi believe that quality, style, and the way a pair of sunglasses flatters your face should take precedence over the brand's logo and each handmade pair is designed and crafted with the highest quality materials and utmost functionality. Each frame takes at least 6-12 weeks of meticulous care to create – they are hand dyed, subjected to 3 rounds of hand polishing, and the category 3 lenses with 400 nanometer UV length are custom sourced in France as they are the highest grade nylon available. Further proof of their attention to detail – and of particular interest to us – Smoke x Mirrors also chooses frame materials that are more sustainable than many sunglasses, most notably, the cellulose acetate which is hypoallergenic, non-petroleum based, and made from renewable resources like cotton and wood fibers. With a higher oxygen content relative to a typical acetate and then combined with Smoke x Mirrors lightweight and durable stainless steels, the frames are much lighter and super comfortable to wear.
