Antique sterling silver plated copper panel depicting Apollo, the Greek god of healing, truth, and light, dancing with his half-sisters the nine muses – Calliope the muse of eloquence and epic poetry, Clio the muse of history, Erato the muse of love poetry, Melpomene the muse of tragedy, Terpsichore the muse of dance, Polyhymnia the muse of sacred poetry, Euterpe the muse of lyric poetry, Thalia the muse of comedy, and Urania the muse of astronomy. The muses resulted from Zeus’ nine-day love affair with Mnemosyne, the goddess of memory, and are the cultivators of intellect, science and the arts.
