The Tiny - but Mighty - Tortoise

The tortoise is seen as a symbol of wisdom, longevity, perseverance, and patience. Although regarded in contemporary times as relatively slow and sedentary animals, tortoises were revered by ancient cultures around the world. In Greek and Roman times, the tortoise was a fertility symbol and was associated with the Greek goddess Aphrodite and the Roman goddess Venus. For the Chinese, the tortoise is sacred and symbolizes longevity, power, and tenacity. More recently, turtles and tortoises have come to symbolize the environmental movement and ecological awareness.
