Description

Deep turquoise, mouth blown glass vase made in one of Finland's few remaining glassblowers’ co-operatives, the eight member Riihimäen Lasi. The vase is made by rotating a glass ball placed on the end of a blow-pipe in a furnace reaching a temperature of 1,100 degrees Celsius. The Riihimäen furnace has been in operation uninterrupted for eight years, as you can only turn it off once. Glass blowing is very delicate work and requires much skill- you can’t shape and re-shape glass indefinitely. Every time you touch glass with a tool, its temperature decreases, shortening the window to work with it and make it perfect.
